Some of the highest paying careers are commonly found in engineering fields. With mid-career salaries easily exceeding $100k per year, engineers earn well in excess of the national average salary; a trend that is expected to continue. Out of the top 17 highest paying degrees, 10 belong to engineering disciplines. Experts attribute this to the high demand for engineers in the national marketplace. In fact, almost half of all engineering positions are unfilled.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), here are the current six highest paid engineering careers:

  • Petroleum Engineer
  • Chemical Engineer
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Materials Engineer
  • Aerospace Engineer
  • Computer Hardware Engineer
